ECOWAS Political Mission to Liberia Advances Several Recommendations…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-ECOWAS high-level Political Mission to Liberia has advanced several recommendations to settle the ongoing impasse at the House of Representatives.

Professor Ibrahim GAMBARI, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Political Affairs and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, led the Mission.

After days of engagements, the Mission, through a communique, urged President Joseph Boakai, former Presidents Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and George Weah, to work closely together to enhance peace, stability, and development in the country.

The Mission also called on all stakeholders to respect the Supreme Court’s impending ruling and develop a roadmap to promptly end the impasse in the House of Representatives’ leadership.

According to the communique, a copy of which is in the possession of ELBC, International stakeholders should support ongoing efforts to find lasting solutions to the country’s current political impasse.

The high-level Political Mission finally assured all stakeholders of ECOWAS’ enduring commitment to supporting Liberia in promoting peace, sustainable development, and good governance.

It can be recalled, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, acting on the recommendation of the 53rd Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council at the Ministerial Level, deployed a High-Level Political Mission to Liberia from March 23rd to the 27th, 2025.
