Pres. Boakai Charges Judiciary, Commends Outgoing Chief Justice…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has charged judicial actors to dispense impartial justice without fear or favor.

President Boakai said,” This is pivotal to the effectiveness of the country’s democratic governance structure. As required by law, judicial actors must continue to uphold the principles of good governance in the interest of the people void of discrimination.”

He spoke on Monday, March 10, 2025, during the opening of the March 2025 Term of Court at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.

President Boakai cautioned them to remain steadfast in adhering to all judicial proceedings as he pledged the government’s commitment to support the Judiciary.

President Boakai applauded Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyeneh Yuoh for her commendable stewardship of the Third Branch of Government since assuming power in 2022.

At the same time, Chief Justice Yuoh has announced her pending retirement from the Judiciary as Head, as she reaches the age of seventy on June 26, 2025.

The Chief Justice’s retirement is in strict accordance with Article 72 (b) of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.

The law states that the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court and Judges of the Subordinate Court of records shall be retired at the age of seventy.

As a result of this provision, this March Term of Court opening is Justice Yuoh’s last opening in her capacity as Chief Justice and Head of the Judiciary.

Chief Justice Yuoh said:” I will continue with cases I heard until judgements are rendered. The Judiciary remains fully operational, through exploring ways to enhance the functions, despite the many challenges the Judiciary is faced with.”
