MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Former Finance and Development Planning Minister, Boima Kamara, has been appointed Director General of the West African Monetary Agency, making him the first Liberian to occupy such a position.

The West African Monetary Agency (WAMA) is an autonomous and specialized agency of ECOWAS, established in 1996, to promote the use of national currencies in trade and non-trade transactions within the sub-region.

During a courtesy call on Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Ngafuan over the weekend in Monrovia, Director Kamara promised strong collaboration between the Agency and all member States of ECOWAS.

Mr. Boima Kamara said:” I intend to ensure the establishment of the Central Bank of West Africa, use the ECO currency, and release member states of debt distress during my four-year tenure.”

The West Africa Monetary Agency (WAMA) Director General promised his entity’s unwavering support and collaboration with the Liberian Government through the Central Bank of Liberia and the Ministry of Finance to improve the country’s monetary policy.
