Project to Strengthen Political Governance, Accountability, Transparency Launched

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A three-year project intended to strengthen political governance, accountability, and transparency in Liberia has been launched.

The project will be implemented by three Civil Society Organizations, including the Center for Transparency and Accountability (CENTAL), NAYMOTE-Partners for Democratic Development, and the Center for Democratic Governance.

CENTAL Executive Director, Anderson Miamen said:” The project seeks to increase citizens’ demands for political accountability in the management of the country’s resources.”

Mr. Miamen noted that the project, which targets over ten thousand beneficiaries, will be implemented in Grand Bassa, Margibi and Bomi Counties.

Speaking at the official launch of the project in Sinkor on Tuesday, November 12,2024, the CENTAL Head expressed optimism that the full implementation of the project will increase citizens’ say on local and national issues in the targeted counties.

At the same time, Ireland Ambassador to Liberia says inclusive participation in local governance is crucial to driving sustainable change.

Ambassador Gerard Considine said:” The move also influences the way resources are allocated and distributed evenly for the benefit of the citizens.”

Ambassador Considine noted that strengthening transparency and accountability in the governance structure of Liberia remains critical in achieving the Government’s ARREST Agenda.

The Irish Envoy reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote justice, human rights, and the rule of law in the country.

The three-year project, with funding from the Government of Ireland, will empower more than ten thousand persons to remain engaged and informed about issues of corruption in Grand Bassa, Margibi, and Bomi Counties.
