US Africa Command Commander Commends Liberian Army

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Visiting Commander of the United States Africa Command has described the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) as a though, professional and demanding force.

General Michael Langley said:” The brave men and women of the AFL displayed exceptional professionalism and commitment during their time with the US Mission in Mali.”

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, the US AFRICOM Commander admitted that the size of the AFL is an enduring challenge that must be addressed.

General Langley expressed profound confidence in the security architecture of Liberia, and warned of increasing security in the ECOWAS region.

General Michael Langley met with President Joseph Boakai, authorities from the Ministry of National Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, as part of his visit to the Country.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador Mark Toner says the US Africa Command is committed to advancing vital interests of the United States in Africa.

According to Ambassador Toner, such effort is being done through sustained engagements with partners like Liberia, to promote shared security objectives on the continent.

He described General Michael Langley’s visit as a testament of the strong military partnership between Liberia and the United States.

Ambassador Toner said:” The US Government is committed to reinforcing its shared security interests and relationships with key partners in Africa.”

According to Ambassador Mark Toner, General Michael Langley’s meeting with President Joseph Boakai and key stakeholders in the country have been successful, with a hope of deepening the military partnership with Liberia in the future.
