USAID Presents Lifesaving Equipment to Health Institutions…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-US Government, through USAID, has presented several lifesaving equipment valued at over eight hundred thousand US Dollars.

The equipment and medical supplies will strengthen neo-natal births and reduce maternal mortality rates in Liberia.

Some of the equipment includes neonatal mechanic ventilation sets, newborn incubators, and resuscitation tables, among others.

According to ELBC Reporter, eight health centers in Margibi, Bong, and Nimba Counties are targeted beneficiaries of the USAID project.

Meanwhile, benefiting health facilities have hailed USAID for demonstrating its expressed commitment to strengthening the Country’s health system.

They said the donation of the equipment has shifted health outcomes in host and surrounding communities.

Meanwhile, USAID has recommitted to promoting access to quality healthcare across Liberia.

USAID Mission Director, Jim Wright, believes a healthy population is essential in the growth and development of the country.

Mr. Wright was speaking on Thursday, December 14, 2023, in Belefana, Bong County, when USAID handed over medical equipment and supplies to the Bong, Nimba, and Margibi County health teams.

Mr. Wright said:” The equipment and medical supplies to the three counties will strengthen neo-natal births and reduce maternal mortality rates in Liberia.”

Under the project, USAID equipped and supported eight health facilities in those counties and reduced the high maternal and newborn deaths by fifty percent.

At the same time, Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Francis Kateh, is cautioning healthcare providers to prioritize the welfare and care of their patients.

Dr. Kateh said this is fundamental to their well-being and rapid response to treatment.

The Chief Medical Officer said:” The lack of proper care also undermines the health system and allows unattended patients to abandon health facilities.”

Dr. Francis Kateh hailed USAID for its expressed interest and commitment to revamping Liberia’s health system.
