Extractive Industry and Transparency Initiative Warns Gov. Institutions, Concession Companies…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia Extractive Industry and Transparency Initiative (LEITI) has sounded a caveat to Government institutions and concession companies to meet up with the reporting deadline.

LEITI Head of Secretariat, Jeffrey Yates, said:” Under the reporting framework, it is required that all Government institutions begin sending their reports to meet the international reporting deadline in July”.

Mr. Yates said:” Failure on the part of the institutions and companies to comply may lead to naming and shaming, as part of the institution’s policy”.

In an interview on the ELBC Economic Hour program on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, Mr. Yates stated that the fourteen different reports compiled by LEITI since 2007, showed that the Liberian Government has generated about one-billion dollars.

He also boasted of an increase in the contributions of the extractive sector to the national budget.
