Education Ministry approves dawn of Education for Every Child Today (EFFECT)

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Education has endorsed the commencement of the Education for Every Child Today (EFFECT) program in Liberia.

The project targets thirteen-thousand-five-hundred out-of-school children in Montserrado, Margibi and Maryland Counties.

Speaking at the launch of the program on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in Monrovia, Deputy Education Minister for Instruction, Alexander Duopu, said the enhancement of Public–Private Partnership in the Education Sector cannot be overemphasized.

Minister Duopu added that the sector was greatly affected by the civil crisis, Ebola virus and COVID-19, and that the launch of a program to ensure that no child is left behind is commendable.

He described the project as a dream come through, and pledged Government’s overwhelming support to the implementation of the initiative in Liberia.

Launching the project, the Senate Committee Chair on Education and Public Administration, Prince Moye, lauded Street Child Liberia for its support to the Education Sector of the Country.

He added that the contributions on the international organization will go a long way by impacting the lives of thousands of out-of-school children across Liberia.

Also speaking, Street Child Country Director for Liberia and Sierra Leone, Owen Doel, said:” The program is expected to witness the construction of thirty-seven new schools in the targeted counties.”

Mr. Doel added that EFFECT will increase the ability of caregivers and afford costs of education, improve the experience of teaching and learning as well as increase access to schools at a safe distance.

He maintained that Street Child Liberia is one of the Education Ministry’s partners working in forty public schools in Maryland and Margibi Counties, under the Public-Private Partnership program.

Mr. Doel disclosed that the project supports Pillar-Two of the Government’s Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development, which focuses on economic stability and job creation.
