Liberian Senate cites Finance and Agriculture Ministers…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has voted to cite the Ministers of Finance and Agriculture, to give reasons why they should not be held in contempt.

It followed the failure of both Ministers to appear before the Senate Committee of the Whole on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

The Ministers of Finance, Commerce and Agriculture were cited by the Senate to provide clarity on the recent shortage of rice in the Country.

Both Ministers of Finance and Agriculture, in separate communications, asked the Senate to reschedule the hearing on grounds that they are on governmental assignments abroad.

Members of the Senate argued that when Minister proper is absent, the Deputy in Charge should have appeared to provide the needed information.

Meanwhile, the two Ministers cited are to appear before the Senate on Tuesday, next week, to give reasons why they should not be held in contempt.

At the same time, the Minster of Commerce and Deputy are currently before the Senate, providing information on the recent rice situation.
