Central Bank begins introduction of lower denominations of new Liberian Dollar Banknotes

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Central Bank (CBL) will today, Thursday, officially begin the introduction of lower denominations of the new family of Liberian Dollar banknotes.

The move is in continuation of the ongoing currency change over exercise.

The CBL Executive Director, Aloysius Tarlue, said:” The CBL will begin the process with the release of twenty and fifty denominations in circulation.”

Governor Tarlue told a news conference on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, that the Bank is working with commercial banks to con duct the process.

He noted that the Bank will work with commercial banks to create a special window for non-account holders.

The CBL Executive Director said:” The window will help non-account holders with low quantity of Liberian Banknotes have access to the new money.”

Until now, only the one-hundred and five-hundred denominations of the new banknotes are in circulation.

At the same time, the CBL Executive Director has refuted media reports that the CBL volt was gutted by fire.

Governor Tarlue termed the report as false and misleading, clarifying that it was an air conditioner within the CBL facility that had and electric shock, and not the volt.

He noted that the situation has been resolved long since.
