Speaker Chambers urges Bea Mountain Company to uphold Miniral Dev. Agreement…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-House Speaker Bhofal Chambers has strongly urged the Bea Mountain Mining Company (BMMC) to uphold its Mineral Development Agreement with the Liberian Government.

During a visit of high-power Legislative delegation to Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County on Wednesday, September 21,2022, Speaker Chambers called on the company to fully implement its Corporate Social Responsibility to the affected communities.

Dr. Chambers also raised concern about environmental issues at the mines, number of Liberians in the company’s management positions and the wellbeing of concession affected communities.

He, however, expressed dismay over the absence of top managers of the company, including its General Manager, Mr. Reza Karimiyan, during such an important visit by members of the House of Representatives.

Also speaking, Bea Mountain Community Relations Superintendent, Henry Vincent said:” The Company has changed the status of ninety daily hired workers to short term contractors and one-hundred-sixteen short term contractors to permanent employees.

Superintendent Vincent told the Lawmakers that the Company constructed market, clinic and primary school for citizens of the communities.

During the tour, the Lawmakers observed that the clinic, vocational school and housing estate in Kinjor lack toilet facilities, medical supplies and running water.
