Court orders Nat’l Patriotic Party’s Leadership to conduct elections

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Civil Law Court has ordered the leadership of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct the Party’s election within forty-five days, to put an end to ongoing internal wrangling.

It followed Judge Nancy Sammie pre-trial conference with lawyers of aggrieved parties.

The Supreme Court recent judgment without opinion mandated the subordinate court to resume jurisdiction over the NNP case.

It also gave effect to Judge Kennedy Peabody’s September 8, 2020 ruling, where NPP Chairman, now Maryland County Senator James Banney was ordered to conduct the Party’s election, as provided for by the Party’s Constitution.

The Civil Law Court’s mandate Wednesday, August 31, 2022, has reinforced the Supreme Court’s order to NPP Chairman Banney to conduct election in forty-five days, without delay.

Chairman Banney’s Lawyer, Cllr. Wilkins Wright, took an exception to Judge Sammie’s decision by announcing an appeal to the Supreme Court, but his appeal was denied on grounds that the judgment is a mandate from the Supreme Court.
