Zwedru Court releases pre-trial detainees

GRAND GEDEH COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Zwedru Magisterial Court in Grand Gedeh County has released over ten pre-trial detainees.

ELBC Grand Gedeh County Correspondent said:” It is as a result of an application filed by the County’s Solicitor, Jerome Tarpeh, on grounds that State Prosecutors lack sufficient evidence to prosecute the detainees.”

The pre-trial detainees committed crimes ranging from theft of property, criminal mischief and burglary, and had been in detention for over two years.

Solicitor Tarpeh said:” It is a violation of human rights to detain a person accused of a crime for a long period of time, without being tried in court.”

Meanwhile, the released detainees have vowed to live a life worth emulating, and avoid vices that are counterproductive to the State and their families.
