Pres. Weah mourns late Dr. Amos Sawyers’ death

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has described the death of former Liberian Interim President Amos Sawyer as an enormous loss to Liberia and the rest of Africa.

President Weah said Dr. Sawyer was a pillar of strength for Liberia’s pro-democracy movement, and someone who contributed immensely to the peace the Country now enjoys.

He was a founding member of the Movement for Justice in Africa (MOJA), a social justice organization that was active in the 1070s, and credited for raising the political consciousness of the population.

According to an Executive Mansion release issued recently, the Liberian Leader said Dr. Sawyer’s footprint will remain etched in the story of the Country for generations to come.

He ex tended his sympathy to the bereaved family, particularly the widow of the late Statesman, Mrs. Thelma Duncan Sawyer, whom he regarded as a mother.

The former Liberian Interim President died at age 76, on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, the United States of America.

According to family sources, Dr. Sawyer had undergone two surgeries in recent years, with deteriorating health condition.

Dr. Amos Sawyer retired from politics in October last year because of health and other challenges.
