Gov’t bars Poro activities in Grand Cape Mount County for…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Grand Cape MOUNT County has been barred by the Government of Liberia from carrying out Poro activities for the next four years.

The decision, according to Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf, follows continuous actions from traditional leaders of the County in using the Country Devil to obstruct normal activities of the Bea Mountain Company.

Speaking at the 65th Armed Forces Day Symposium, Minister Sirleaf said:” The action of the Traditional Leaders to use Country Devil in civil matters is a serious security threat, not only to the company, but the Country and Concession Sector.”

Minister Sirleaf said though Poro remains a part of the Liberian Culture, Government will not tolerate people using the culture to destabilize the peace that has existed in the Country since the end of the Liberian Civil War.
