Information Minister calls on Liberians to join Liberia’s Bicentennial Commemoration

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Information Minister, Ledgerhood Rennie, is rallying Liberians to join the Liberian Government commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Country’s founding.

Minister Rennie said:” The Bicentennial celebration presents an opportunity for Liberians to embrace all sides of the society, and also recognizes the historical values of the Liberian State and its people.”

He urged Liberians to proffer their ideas on what they want Government to do, assuring that the plights and ideas of citizens will be addressed by Government.

Minister Rennie also disclosed that the bicentennial kickoff event will take place this Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Providence Island in Monrovia.

Speaking Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at a Special MICAT Press Conference, Minister Rennie recognized the efforts of some Liberians who have been engaged in programs ahead of the official celebration of the day.

Meanwhile, the Chairman on Bicentennial History Committee, Dr. William Allen, has described the Providence Island of Liberia as a politic al monument of of the Country.

According to Professor Allen, the life of every Liberian is physically and emotionally traced to the Providence Island.

He said:” The Island in centuries accommodated freed slaves who were repatriated from America to settle in Liberia, and the history of the Island serves as the root of the Country.”

At the same time, local chiefs and elders of Liberia have joined the Liberian Government to celebrate the 200th Bicentennial of the Country.

The Head of the National Traditional Council of Chiefs and Elders, Zanzan Karwor, said local chiefs were crucial to the formation of the Liberian State.

He said:” Settlers who were repatriated to Africa, especially to Liberia, were warmly received by local chiefs, and the inclusion of them is a milestone achievement.”

Meanwhile, Chief Zanzan Karwor is rallying local chiefs and elders to take ownership of the pending celebration.
