Independent audit of Gov’t Domestic Debts commences

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-An independent audit of the Liberian Government’s domestic debts, ranging from 1980 to 2021, is being conducted in the Country.

The audit is aimed at concluding on the validity of claims, domestic debts and arrears owed by government, within the periods.

The independent audit followed the Finance Ministry, in collaboration the African Development Bank’s engagement with the General Auditing Commission (GAC), to conduct the audit.

Making the disclosure over the weekend in Monrovia, Liberia’s Auditor General, Garswa Jackson said: “The domestic debt audit is also intended to assess and evaluate their effectiveness of controls over the domestic debt portfolio of government.”

Auditor General Jackson disclosed that the audit will serve as a basis for the development of a comprehensive database, for domestic debt management system.

He said the achievement of the independent domestic debt audit will aid government plan, budget for and liquidate valid debts, while it mitigates the accumulation and disbursement of invalid claims.
