Gov’t seeks extension of ArcelorMittal Operations…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government is seeking an extension of ArcellorMittal operations in other parts of its concession area.

The move followed a complaint raised by citizens of Nimba, Bong and Grand Bassa counties, over the operation of the Company.

It can be recalled that President Weah held talks with the Company, and presented to the National Legislature a document seeking an expansion into the Company’s work.

In an ELBC interview Monday, November 8,2021, Deputy Press Secretary Smith Toby said:” The Liberian Chief Executive continues to engage the owner of the Company, during his stay in Paris to address the issue.”

Mr. Toby said the Liberian Leader is optimistic about his engagements with the Company.

According to the Deputy Press secretary, such extension being sought by government will give just benefits to workers and the people of Liberia, as well as rekindle ties between government and the company.
