Pres. Weah imposes indefinite curfew in Maryland County…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has imposed an indefinite curfew in Maryland County beginning Thursday, April 1, 2021, to end widespread protests.

Motorcyclists and women took to the streets since Monday, March 29.2021, demanding justice for a motorcyclist who was killed and body parts allegedly extracted.

Addressing the Nation on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, President Weah said:” The curfew takes effect from six in the evening to six in the morning.”

He further said that the curfew will be enforced by the Liberia National Police (LNP), with support from other security apparatus.

The Liberian Leader then urged residents of the County to respect the curfew and abide by security instructions during the lockdown.

At the same time, the home of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bhofal Chambers, in Pleebo City in Maryland County has been burnt to ashes by protesting youth in Pleebo District.

According to ELBC Maryland County Correspondent, several young people gathered Wednesday morning, March 29, 2021, in continuation of protest in demand for justice for the brutal murder of a motorcyclist called Modecial Nyema.

Our Correspondent said some members of Speaker Chamber’s Office Staff are on the run for fear of being harmed by the protestors.

Our Correspondent said the entire Maryland County is currently experiencing protests, as thousands of women are on the rampage in Harper City calling for justice for the death of Nyema.

Government Agencies, including the Ministries of Information, Internal Affairs, and the Liberia National Police (LNP) are appealing for calm in the County.
