Liberians observe Pres. Roberts’ Birth Anniversary as Nat’l Holiday

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberians are today Monday, March 15, 2021, commemorating the two-hundred-twelfth Birth Anniversary of the Country’s first President, Joseph Jenkins Roberts.

The day is being observed throughout the Country as a national holiday, pursuant to a Presidential Proclamation.

According to a Foreign Ministry release issued over the weekend, the proclamation further orders all Government offices, public buildings and business houses closed.

The proclamation is in consonance with an Act of the National Legislature, declaring the birth anniversary of Liberia’s first President as a national holiday.

The enactment is in appreciation of the unwavering effort of President Roberts in organizing the First Government of the Republic, as well as negotiating and concluding treaties with foreign powers to recognize the funding of the Country.
