Gov’t wants public remains calm amid Ebola outbreak in neighboring Guinea

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government is calling on the general public to remain calm, in the wake of reports of Ebola outbreak in neighboring Guinea.

An Executive Mansion release issued over the weekend said the President’s request on increase surveillance is to ensure that Liberia acts positively to avoid any epidemic situation.

The Government assures that there is no case of Ebola in the country and that measures are underway to ensure that the public remains safe from the deadly virus.

According to the release, there will be regular updates from relevant authorities on the situation.

However, Health Minister Wilhelmina Jallah says:” health authorities are monitoring the Ebola situation in Guinea, and taking appropriate steps to prevent an outbreak in Liberia.”

Dr. Jallah said the Incident Management Team has already put out high alert to all the bordering counties.

Speaking in an ELBC interview Sunday, February 14, 2021, in Gbarnga, Bong County, Dr. Jallah said County Health Teams and Surveillance Officers have also been contacted about the situation in Guinea.

She said the Ministry has heightened its surveillance and preparedness to track any possible case of Ebola in the Country. Dr. Jallah then called on the public no to panic, but take all necessary precaution.
