Liberian Senate endorses Committee’s report, wants pending retirement of security personnel halted

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberian Senate has endorsed a report from its Committee on Defense, Security, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs recommending a halt to the pending retirement process in the security sector.

The recommendation was contained in a report submitted to plenary Tuesday based on a communication proffered recently by Lofa County Senator Stephen Zargo.

Senator Zargo had warned that retiring security officers under the current economic conditions would create looming security threats.

The committee recommended that the Liberian Senate should communicate with the President, Civil Service Agency and the Finance Ministry to halt the process until resources are mobilized for settlement severance benefits.
