Pres. Weah condemns reported election violence in Grand Cape Mount County

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has strongly condemned a reported political violence in Porkpar District in Grand Cape Mount County, ahead of Tuesday’s Senatorial Elections.

President Weah is quoted in an Information release as saying; Government will not condone such violent action by any group of citizens or political party.

The Liberian Leader’s condemnation is in reaction to a report that a convoy belonging to the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) Senatorial Candidate in Grand Cape Mount County, Simpson Taylor came under attack.

It was reported that two of his vehicles were set ablaze, after a tussle ensued between rival supporters of political parties.

President Weah also emphasized that election is about the exercise of people’s democratic rights and should be void of violence.

Meanwhile, campaign activities in the 2020 December 8 Mid-Term Senatorial and By-Elections have ended at 12 mid-night Sunday, December 6,2020, in keeping with the guidelines of the National Elections Commission.

The Legislative elections will fill the fifteen seats in the Liberian Senate, and two By-Elections for Sinoe County District Two and Montserrado County District Nine are for the House of Representatives.

Vacancies for the House of Representatives were created by the deaths of Representative Nagbe Sloh of Sinoe County and Munah Pelham of Montserrado County.

At the same time, voting for the National Referendum will take place simultaneously on Tuesday, December 8, to amend certain portion of the Liberian Constitution.
