Liberia Revenue Authority Boss counters FrontPage Africa report, accusing him of covering up on alleged missing money…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has refuted a FrontPage Africa Newspaper report, accusing him of covering up on alleged missing money from Government’s Consolidated Account.

The FrontPage Africa story alleged that an internal memo at the LRA indicated huge sums of paid taxes were not being reflected in the consolidated revenue account.

Mr. Thomas Doe Nah said:” FrontPage Africa has quoted a falsified memo created on individuals bent on tarnishing and undermining the workings of the LRA and Government, as a whole.”

Mr. Nah said the memo that the paper used as source was illegitimate, and did not emanate from the LRA.

He disclosed that the legitimate memo did call for review of audit findings on direct transfer to commercial banks, and not submitting audit findings on direct transfer.

Speaking Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) Press Briefing, the LRA Boss clarified that the entity does not have the authority to audit the Central Bank of Liberia as being insinuated.

At the same time, Commissioner Nah said despite the challenges, revenue collection is performing well in Liberia.

According to Mr. Nah, for the past three months the LRA has met its target in revenue collection.

He said:” The regularity of the payment of salaries, the success in the fight of COVID-19 and the construction of several roads in the Country are evidence that revenue collection is performing well.”

The LRA Commissioner General told the MICAT Press Briefing that the institution will not allow enemies of progress and development to distract its focus in collecting the needed revenues for the Country.
