Local judicial official calls for extension of court term from 42 to 62

BOPOLU, GBARPOLU COUNTY – The Presiding Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarpolu City, Judge Kennedy Peabody has recommended to the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Justice for the extension of the court from 42 days to 62 days.

Our Gbarpolu County correspondent quotes Judge Peabody as saying, the extension will enable Judges and Magistrates will judge and dispense every case on the dockets of courtrooms in the country.

In a related development, the Judge of the 13th judicial Circuit Court Judge Joe Barcon wants Judges and Magistrates to be impartial, independent, and Knowledgeable of the law.

Our Upper Margibi County Correspondent quotes Judge Barcon at the opening of the November term of court in the county, saying that Judges and Magistrates must avoid being party litigants to undermine the credibility of the Judicial System.

Judge Barcon also warned that anyone found practicing law without been accredited will be dealt with according to the laws of the country.

Meanwhile, the Resident Judge of the Tenth Judicial Circuit Court in Lofa County has cautioned judicial actors to dispense impartial justice in the discharge of their duties.

Judge Nancy Sammy said the Judiciary also is under moral and professional obligation to promote equality in the justice system.

Speaking Monday, November 9, 2020, at the opening of the November Term of Court in Voinjama, Judge Sammy urged judges to depoliticize the judicial system.

She also called on the Public not to interfere in judicial matters as doing so will undermine the judicial powers of the country and it is punishable by law.

ELBC Correspondent said Tenth Judicial Circuit Court has a total of 30 cases on its docket.
