Liberia records 21 new confirmed COVID-19 cases

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia has recorded twenty-one new confirmed new cases of Coronavirus.

Liberia’s total number of COVID-19 infections has risen to one-thousand-four-hundred-sixteen, since the outbreak of the virus.

Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah made the disclosure Monday, October 26, 2020, in an ELBC interview.

According to Minister Jallah, Montserrado accounts for eighteen of the cases, while the remaining cases are reported from Grand Bassa and Margibi Counties.

Dr. Jallah attributed the situation to the refusal of most Liberians to adhere to health protocols.

She described the action as unfortunate and reiterated calls for Liberians to return to the regular observance of the stipulated health protocols.

Meanwhile, an international health expert, Tolbert Nyensuah, has been giving reasons for the low deaths rate of the virus on the African Continent.

According to Mr. Nyensuah, this is due to behavioral change, community engagement, community cohesiveness and age factor.

He said other reasons are the psycho-social support, wearing of mask and social distancing.

Mr. Nyensuah said:” There are many pre-condition sicknesses that are associated with the West, like high blood pressure and diabetes that cause more deaths linking to the coronavirus.”

Mr. Nyensuah told ELBC Monday, October 26, 2020, discussions are ongoing among international health experts on the development of vaccine to combat the virus.
