Autopsies on remains of four Liberians who died mysteriously begins

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia says autopsies on the remains on four Liberians, who died under mysterious circumstances, will begin today, Monday, October 19, 2020.

According to an Information Ministry release issued over the weekend, the post mortem examination is aimed at establishing the cause of deaths of the deceased, amidst public concerns.

The dead are Albert Peters, a former Internal Auditor of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Gifty Lamah, Research Analyst, LRA, George Fanbutu, Revenue Auditor, LRA, and Emmanuel Nyeswua, Director General, Internal Audit Agency.

The autopsies, according to the MICAT release, are expected to be conducted in the presence of representatives from the deceased’s families, Press Union of Liberia (PUL), the Inter-Religious Council and Civil Society Organizations.

The autopsies will be conducted by Doctors Benedict Koles and Zoebon Kpadeh, UNDP trained pathologists at the St. Moses Funeral Parlor.

At the same time, the Government of Liberia said it has given an option to families of the deceased, at various meetings held with them to bring on board pathologists of their choosing.

According to the release, Liberian investigators have also begun working along with their American counterparts, following an appeal by the Liberian Government for US assistance.

Recently, President George Weah requested Liberia’s international partners to help with the investigation, as a means of ensuring an open and credible process.

Meanwhile, the Government has reiterated its appeal to the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to establish the cause of deaths, and refrain from acts that could undermine the credibility of the process.
