Pres. Weah reaffirms Gov‘t vow to recover Liberia’s lost and stolen assets

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has reaffirmed Government commitment to continue the recovering of Liberia’s lost and stolen assets.

President vowed that past and present public officials of Government will account for resources entrusted to them, during their service to the Country.

The Liberian Leader, however, said Government will ensure that such process is carried out in an equitable and impartial manner.

President Weah disclosed that the principle objectives are to retrieve public resources, and also serve as deterrent to potential perpetrators.

President Weah made the recommitment Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at the opening of a two-day National Anti-Corruption Conference at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, outside Monrovia.

President Weah said:” The conference reflects another opportunity for all stakeholders to tackle corruption, the age-old menace that continues to exist in the society.”

At the same time, the Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. Ndubuisi Nwabudike has described public perception towards corruption.

Cllr. Nwabudike said:” More needs to be done by anti-corruption institutions to change and adopt new approach in corruption fight.”

The LACC Head also wants anti-graph institutions work together to improve Government’s effort to instill good governance, accountability and transparency for public resources.Cllr. Nwabudike said the conference is geared towards raising the awareness of the negative impact of corruption on development and economic growth.

The National Anti-Corruption Conference is supported by the Government of Liberia through the LACC, Governance Commission (GC), Public Procurement and Concession Commission (PPCC), the General Auditing Commission (GAC),  and Financial Intelligence Unit among others.
