House of Rep. concurs with Senate, extends sitting by a month

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has concurred with the Liberian Senate on the extension of sitting by one month.

The Senate in a communication to the House of Representatives recently requested the body’s concurrence to a one month ex tension beginning September 1, 2020.

According to ELBC Legislative Reporter, the Legislature should have concluded its deliberation as of August 31, 2020.

But the Senate’s resolution is consistent with Article 32B, extended the sitting as a result of a key national issues that warrant Legislative consideration.

Meanwhile, the body is expected to adjourn on September 30,2020.

At the same time, House Speaker, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, has constituted a Special Committee to investigate and forward findings, within three working days, about concerns raised by some staffers of the House of Representatives.

A release from the office of Speaker Chambers issued Thursday, September 2, 2020, said the committee has been mandated to forward findings from claims made by aggrieved staffers of the House of Representatives, following a protest.

The staffers headed by their spokesperson, Benjamin Myers, decried salary cuts and lack of other benefits covering a one-calendar-year period.

However, the release said Speaker Chambers will take actions following the findings from the Special Committee investigating the claims made by the aggrieved staffers.
