Catholic Bishops Conference Proposes Long Term Imprisonment For Perpetrators of Rape

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Catholic Bishops Conference of Liberia is proposing a long term imprisonment for perpetrators of rape in Liberia, rather than death penalty.

Recently, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Liberia condemned the sharp increase of rape cases across the country but said it does not support death penalty.

Speaking to journalists Tuesday in Congo Town, the Conference Secretary General, Father Dennis Nimely, said rape is diminishing to women and girlhoods in the country despite being a non-billable crime.

According to Father Nimely, rape is on the rapid increase due to rapid breakdown of family values.

The Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Liberia is at the same time calling on political actors and Liberians to do away with electoral violence during the 2020 Mid – Term Senatorial Election.
