MONROVIA, LIBERIA-As Liberia grapples with the issues surrounding sexual based violence against Liberians, especially women, there are several local and international organizations tirelessly striving to assist individuals, who have been victimized through this inhumane act.
One of such organizations is a Liberian-United States Based organization, Victors in Christ, headed by Chief Executive Officer Siah Stevens.
Recently, Victors in Christ identified with more than fifty sexual based violence survivals, by donating food items to them in the Du-Port Road Community in Paynesville.
Presenting the items to the survivals, the Country Representative of Victors in Christ in Liberia, Philip Quoiquoi, said the gesture by the Chief Executive Officer of the group, Siah Stevens, is intended to assist the women during this COVID-19 period.
“Siah Stevens, who is also a sexual based violence survival, is in sympathy with the women,” he added:
Mr. Quoiquoi said:” Through the assistance of friends and supporters of the organization, the amount of nine-hundred- United States Dollars was generated to buy the food items.
He said the gesture of Siah Stevens will go beyond the distribution of food items, to economic empowerment of the women.
She is contemplating on establishing a safe home, where women who are victimize through sexual violence can be trained in various skills, to enable them provide the necessary assistance to their respective families.
The Country Representative of the organization further disclosed that Victors in Christ will work with the women, to ensure that their lives are improved.
Mr. Quoiquoi is, meanwhile, is calling on all to launch a campaign against Sexual Base Violence in Liberia.
He encouraged well-meaning Liberians to assist women and young girls, and not to use their financial status to abuse them.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mamiekah Yiah, described the donation of Victors of Change as timely.
Madam Yiah said:” Lot of the women during this COVID -19 period are challenged, and are unable to provide for their respective families.”
She admonished the head of Victors in Christ, Siah Stevens, to always remember them in her activities back home.
“We will pray for her to do more for us as survivals of Sexual Based Violence”
Victors in Christ is a Christian related organization, that is working in the areas of advocacy against Sexual Based Violence, rehabilitation, providing counseling services for women and skills building.
