President Weah Lifts EPA Boss Blama’s Suspension

Monrovia, Liberia – President George Manneh Weah has lifted the suspension of Environmental Protection Agency Executive Director Nathaniel Blama.

Dr. Blama was suspended for time indefinite in March this year for what the Executive Mansion called his refusal to adhere to established health protocols set up at the Roberts International Airport.

He was the first Liberian to test positive of Covid-19 following his return from Europe on March 13, prompting a declaration of a health emergency by the Liberian Government.

Health authorities had accused Dr. Blama of refusing to board an ambulance when medical staff went to pick him up for treatment, instead opting to follow the team in his private vehicle.

The lifting of his suspension was announced by the Executive Mansion Thursday evening.

Meanwhile President George Manneh Weah, has made additional nominations in government affecting the Civil Service Agency and the Ministry of Justice.

The Liberian Chief Executive has nominated Mr. James Thompson as the Director General of the Civil Service Agency (CSA) while Abraham Mitchell is now the Assistant Minister for Codification at the Ministry of Justice.

An Executive Mansion release says these nominations are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate where applicable.

At the same time, President Weah has suspended with immediate effect Mr. Myer Betieh, Deputy Managing Director for Administration of the National Transit Authority (NTA).

Mr. Betieh is suspended for administrative reasons for one month without pay.
