Increasing anti-government protests is due to lack of Legislative oversight-Rep. Samuel Kogar

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Nimba County Representative, Samuel Kogar, has attributed the increasing anti-government protests to lack of proper oversight by the Legislature.

Representative Kogar wants the Legislature exercise its constitutional powers, to support Government’s   development efforts.

He called on the Legislature to be more proactive by living up to its constitutional mandate of lawmaking, oversight and representation.

The Nimba County District Five Lawmaker emphasized that members of the Legislature are under constitutional obligation to uphold the trust and confidence reposed in them by their constituents.

According to our reporter, Representative Samuel Kogar made the remarks Thursday, July 23, 2020, in an ELBC interview.

Lawmaker Kogar is further calling for additional budgetary allocation to the Liberia Broadcasting System.

Representative Kogar said:” LBS can only operate to its full capacity, if adequate budgetary allocation is provided by Government.”

He described as unthinkable and unacceptable the station’s inability to cover the entire Country, due to lack of adequate funding to propagate Government’s policies and program to the people.

The Nimba County District Five Lawmaker coincides with ongoing legislative review of the 2020- 2021 Draft National Budget.

According to Representative Kogar, an increment in LBS budget is the prerogative of Government if the entity must fully execute its statutory mandate to the Liberian people.
