Pres. Weah recommends Special Committee to fulfill ECO Currency

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has recommended the establishment of a Special Committee to fulfill the ECO Currency for ECOWAS member States.

President George Weah said:” The Committee should be chaired by Ivoirian President Alassane Quattara to amicably resolve the stalemate in the ECOWAS Single Currency.”

The Liberian Leader also called for a meeting between the recommended Committee and French President Emmanuel Macron, to dialogue with Francophone countries.

President was speaking recently during a virtual meeting of Heads of States of the West Africa Monetary Zone.

President Weah told the gathering that the legacy solidarity left behind by founders of ECOWAS must be guided, to preserve and protect the unity of the sub–region.

According to an Executive Mansion release issued recently, the meeting was attended by Anglophone West African Countries: Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia and Sierra Leone joined by Francophone Guinea.

Meanwhile, President Weah said the ongoing currency stalemate among ECOWAS member states requires a dialogue.

The disagreement over the formulation of a new single currency regime is between the Anglophone and Francophone Blocs ECOWAS member States.

The Liberian Leader said:” The stalemate stopping the formulation of a single currency in the region can only be resolved through informed and cordial dialogue, between Francophone and Anglophone blocs of ECOWAS member States.

President Weah believes negotiation and diplomacy can resolve the ongoing misunderstanding.
