MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has issued a proclamation extending the State of Emergency by additional thirty days.

The proclamation was issued Monday, June 22, 2020, in consultation with members of the Legislature.

An Executive Mansion release quotes President Weah as saying, the extension of the State of Emergency will afford Government the opportunity to re-examine its COVID-19 response strategy.

The Liberian Leader said:” The number of infections continues to rise despite measures taken to stop the spread of the virus.”

President Weah said:” Under the mandate, Government will introduce a program of action to protect the health of Liberians.”

The Liberian Leader also said the public will be required to follow all health protocols, including the wearing of face masks, observing social distancing and the restriction of movements.

Meanwhile, the Government of Liberia has announced an adjustment in the lockdown period, reversing the time from 9pm to 6pm.

The adjustment comes as government expresses concern that the public is no longer complying with health protocols, ordering that all are now required to be indoors by 6 pm instead of the previous 9 pm timeframe.

An Executive Mansion release quotes President George Weah as saying the adjustment became necessary on the guidance of health authorities.

According to the release, such attitude cannot be allowed to continue unabated.

The government reiterates that everyone is required to wear face mask in public places at all times and constantly wash their hands, while also social distancing.

At the same time, President Weah has mandated the Minister of Health, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, to announce and make public details of other health measures aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The Liberian Leader also instructed the security apparatus and health authorities to ensure a stricter enforcement of Coronavirus prevention guidelines.
