Court Declares Brownie Samukai, Two Others Guilty of Stealing US$687,000

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Defendants Brownie Samukai, Joseph Johnson and Nyumah Dunkor, have been found guilty of stealing thousands of United States Dollars from the AFL pension Saving Account.

They were guilty of theft, misuse of public money and criminal conspiracy.

Announcing the verdict Tuesday, Criminal Court “C” Judge, Yamie Gbeisay, ordered the three defense officials to restitute over US$687,000. to the AFL Pension Saving Account and four hundred sixty- thousand United States to the Government of Liberia.

Judge Gbesey said sentence of the former Defense Minister and others will be pronounced pending pre-sentence investigation consistent with Chapter 31 Section31.5 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

Meanwhile, Judge Gbesey has ordered the Clerk of Court to communicate with the Probation Service of Montserrado County to proceed and conduct pre-sentence investigation of the three defense officials and report to the court in fifteen days.
