Government to Mobilize Resources to Prevent Coronavirus

Monrovia Liberia – The Government of Liberia is holding a Special Cabinet meeting today Monday March 9, 2020 to discuss crucial national issues relative to the health and well-being of citizens and residents of the country.

The Cabinet meeting is centered on the global health threats posed by the outbreak of coronavirus.

Liberian Leader, President George Weah will be finding out from his Cabinet how prepared is Liberia to deal with any eventual outbreak of coronavirus and other infectious diseases in the country.

Today’s special Cabinet meeting at the Foreign Ministry will discuss the enhancement of current measures that have been put in place by relevant authorities to protect Liberians from the deadly coronavirus.

The Coronavirus disease has already infected tens of thousands of people around the world.

President George Manneh Weah is said to be deeply concerned about the global outbreak and views the threat of a possible transmission of the disease to the local population very seriously.

A Ministry of Information statement issued last week said the Liberian leader had wanted to elevate discussions about preventing any possible outbreak of coronavirus to the highest level of the government.

Liberian health authorities, including the National Public Health Institute of Liberia and their local and international partners, have already taken appropriate steps to safeguard various ports of entry, while educating people on what they can do to avoid contracting the disease.

The cabinet will be examining ways to compliment and further consolidate these measures and strengthen the national resilience mechanisms put in place by the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia.

The special cabinet meeting will explore stronger cooperation with donor partners to source additional national and international resources in a bid to avert any epidemic.

However, the government reiterates earlier pronouncements from the Health Ministry and NPHIL that Liberia has so far recorded NO known case of the disease.

The public is notwithstanding urged the public to continue to observe measures aimed at preventing the coronavirus.
