Liberia Recommits to African Peer Review Process

Monrovia Liberia – The Liberian government has reaffirmed its decision to undergo the African Peer Review Mechanism.

The African Peer Review Mechanism is Africa’s Self-Assessment for Good Governance.

Currently 40 member states out of Africa’s 55 countries have signed up and have been undergoing the self-assessment and review process.

Speaking Wednesday March 4, 2020 when he received the Technical Support Mission on the APRM Liberia process, Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah, Jr. recommitted the Weah led government to a continuous process of self-assessment aimed at improving governance in Liberia.

Minister Tweah also highlighted several areas that the Government has undertaken to address some of the recommendations contained in the Liberia Country Review Report.

Minister Samuel D. Tweah, Jr. and the African Peer Review Mechanism Focal Point, Monday received the technical support mission in Monrovia led by the APRM Continental Secretariat CEO, Prof. Eddy Maloka.

The technical briefing which was requested by the Government of Liberia was aimed at discussing the roadmap to the Peer Review of the Liberia Country Review Report by African Heads of State and Governments.

The Republic of Liberia undertook its first generation review in April 2017.

A Ministry of Finance statement said following the election of President George Weah, the report was revalidated upon the request of the government, to ensure that the findings and recommendations are aligned with government’s development policy, Pro-Poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity.

Minister Tweah maintained that Liberia remains a highly active member of the African Peer Review Mechanism and valuable source of best practices in a number of areas.

Prof Eddy Maloka was accompanied by Dr. McBride Nkhalamba, the Lead Coordinator for Liberia, Ms. Tsakane Mahlaule and Ms. Nonkululeko Masoek who also met with the members of the National Secretariat.
