Nat’l Public Health Institute denies report of Coronavirus case in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA (Jarp Davies Reports)-The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has denied a reported coronavirus case in Liberia.

The denial is in reaction to widespread social media posts that a Chinese National with the virus has entered the Country.

However, NPHIL Acting Director General, Dr.Mosoka Fallah, told ELBC Tuesday, February 4, 2020, that a Chinese National entered the Country on February 1, 2020, and was tested negative of the virus.

Dr. Fallah clarified that the Chinese in question is not sick and is under self-quarantine, with the Montserrado County Health Team keeping track of him.

Meanwhile, the NPHIL Boss has repeated call on the public to remain conscious and report to health authorities any suspected individual entering the Country.

Meanwhile, an eminent citizen of Margibi County is appealing to the Liberian Government and the World Health Organization to institute measures that will prevent the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

Dr. Speare also urged all Liberians and other nationals in Liberia to be sensitive and abide by the necessary protocols of health authorities to prevent the outbreak of the virus.

He is also appealing to the Liberian Government to increase budgetary allotments to the Country’s health programs.

Dr. Speare said the provision of necessary funding to the health sector will help equip referral hospitals across the Country to tackle critical health problems.

He made the call Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at a press conference in Unification Town in Margibi County.
