MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Prosecuting lawyers on Monday rejected a motion for a new trial in the just-ended jury trial involving former Foreign Minister Dee Maxwell Kemayah and others.
In their application, the State Prosecutors prayed the Court to deny and dismiss a motion to enter final judgment by confirming the jurors’ recent guilty verdict.
In a nine-count motion, prosecution said, “We have sufficiently established the role played by each of the defendants, and therefore our conviction was consistent with law”.
According to the prosecution, the jurors’ verdict is based on evidence adduced during the trial, adding that the motion for a new trial lacks legal and factual basis and must therefore be dismissed.
Convicts Dee Maxwell Kemayah, Varney Sirleaf, Thelma Sawyer, Edris Bility, and Momolu Johnson are held responsible for restituting the value of the stolen rice, and for serving the prison terms consistent with Liberian Criminal Law.
