Labor Minister Kruah Says Increased Number of Liberians Employed in Private Sector…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Labor Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah says there has been a massive increase in the number of Liberians employed in the private sector since the inception of the Unity Party government led by President Joseph Boakai in 2024.

In a Labor survey conducted in ten Counties, targeting one thousand five hundred and twenty-one entities in the private sector, employment jumped from more than 37-thousand -eight-hundred Liberian jobs in 2023 to almost 58-thousand Liberian jobs in 2024.

The Labor survey also reported a rapid increase, with more than 68-thousand Liberian employees in 2025, and by August of 2026, more than 72-thousand Liberians were employed in the private sector alone.

Appearing on the LNTV-Liberia Today show, Cllr. Kruah lauded President Joseph Boakai’s leadership that is ensuring steady employment of Liberians across the private sector.

The Labor Minister disclosed plans to ensure a comprehensive labor survey to be conducted in conjunction with LISGIS by 2027 to understand the number of Liberians being employed by government.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Liberia being upgraded to Tier 2 in the US State Department report on Trafficking in Persons, Labor Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah said the government remains committed to ensuring human traffickers are not given haven in Liberia.

In the report, the US State Department graded Liberia for its stringent stance against human trafficking, a minimum sentence of 20 years for perpetrators, including sex traffickers, and the investigation and prosecution of human traffickers.

Speaking on LNTV-Liberia Today, the Labor Minister vowed to ensure close collaboration with other state actors to enforce stringent border policies and the training of additional inspectors.

Labor Minister Kruah said that, with the requisite budgetary allocation as committed by the government, trafficking in persons (TIP) will be tackled to ensure Liberia is safe and its people are protected from human traffickers.

The Minister stressed the importance of sustained budgetary allocation in the fight against human trafficking, noting that it involves prosecution of the perpetrators, protection of the victims, including medical care, housing, feeding, and sometimes repatriation, if the victim is a foreign national.

As part of that, Labor Minister Cllr. Kruah noted that, during the report period, the government prosecuted and sentenced about 22 traffickers and rescued about 57 victims.
