Liberia Telecom Authority Chair Calls for Increased Investment in Postal Sector

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA), Clarence Massaquoi, is calling for increased government investment in Liberia’s Postal Sector to improve service delivery, reduce costs, and expand access across the country.

Chairman Massaquoi made the call during the celebration of International Post Day.

He said:” The Postal Sector needs greater financial support to strengthen its operations”.

According to him, postal services remain essential to commerce, government operations, and communication with Liberians in the diaspora.

Chairman Massaquoi also called for rural postal services to be reactivated, properly staffed, and equipped, adding that this would allow people in remote communities to receive parcels without traveling long distances.

He urged the government to invest in the sector to improve services and reduce the high cost of sending parcels through private delivery companies.

Massaquoi also said postal services remain essential to Liberia’s economy and public life despite the growing use of email and other digital technologies.

He said postal services continue to connect people, businesses, and communities through the delivery of physical letters and parcels.

The LTA boss noted that online businesses depend on postal networks to deliver goods to customers, noting that important documents and other items cannot always be sent electronically.

Chairman Massaquoi also highlighted the role of postal services in supporting government operations, logistics, and communication with Liberians living abroad.

He urged the government and the public not to overlook the sector because of technological advancement, stressing that postal services remain important to national development.

At the same time, LTA Chairman Clarence Massaquoi is urging postal, telecommunications, and technology leaders to work together to attract investment and improve services in Liberia.

Chairman Massaquoi urged sector leaders to put aside institutional differences and pursue common development goals.

He proposed that the relevant institutions develop a joint agenda and present it to President Joseph Boakai to make a stronger case for investment in the sector.

The LTA Chairman said the telecommunications, postal, and technology sectors contribute significant revenue to the national budget.

He said a unified approach could help secure the resources needed to strengthen postal services, improve workers’ morale, and support Liberia’s development agenda.

For his part, Post and Telecommunications Minister Sekou Kromah has praised postal workers for their contribution to Liberia’s national development.

Minister Kromah made the statement during a celebration honoring postal workers.

He thanked them for their commitment and continued service to the country.

The minister said postal services do more than deliver letters and parcels, noting that they connect families, businesses and communities while creating opportunities for people.

He urged postal workers to continue serving the country with commitment, adding that their efforts remain important to the development of Liberia.
