House of Rep. Summons Local Gov. Ministry Officials

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has summoned several officials of the Ministry of Local Government.

The officials are cited to explain the recent disclosure of plans to dissolve several cities across the country.

They are to appear before the plenary of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The House argued that the Ministry of Local Government lacks the authority to dissolve cities and that its action violates its legal responsibilities.

The Ministry of Local Government will explain to the House of Representatives the legal basis for its decision.

At the same time, the House of Representatives has officially resumed regular activities following its second constituency break.

The resumption marks the opening of the Third and final quarter of the Third Session of the 55th National Legislature.

More than sixty lawmakers were in attendance to grace the opening and deliberate on crucial legislative matters.

Key among them is a special package due to some members of the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Koon, has taken the matter with an assurance to address their concerns.

It can be recalled that some aggrieved members under the banner of the Reformist Movement boycotted the formal opening program on Friday, October 9, 2026, prompting adjournment due to lack of quorum.
