Search Operations Underway for Ghanaian Reportedly Drowned in Cavalla River

GRAND GEDEH COUNTY, LIBERIA-A search operation is underway in Grand Gedeh County for a Ghanaian national who reportedly drowned while on a mining expedition along the Cavalla River.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Abo Ameyo.

Reports reaching ELBC News say the incident occurred when the engine of Ameyo’s boat failed, causing the vessel to capsize in the river.

It remains unclear whether rough river conditions or mechanical failure contributed to the accident.

The Cavalla River, which forms part of the boundary between Liberia and Ivory Coast, is a known site for small-scale mining activities.
