Chief Justice Gbeisay Wants Jury Trial Abolished

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay is calling for the abolition of jury trials in Liberia.

Chief Justice Gbeisay’s call comes amid allegations of jury tampering that have engulfed the Liberian Judiciary in recent times.

He made the call on Monday, October 12, 2026, when he delivered his charge during the opening of the Supreme Court October term at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.

The Chief Justice recounted allegations of jury tampering in the recent economic sabotage case involving former officials, which triggered an investigation by criminal ‘C’ Judge Ousman Feika.

He also cited other notable instances reported in other circuit courts around the country.
