MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The detained former Vice President of Liberia, Jewel Howard-Taylor, has requested the Justice Ministry to allow a doctor to examine her to keep abreast of her medical history.

 Our Judicial Reporter said the request comes ahead of her preliminary hearing slated for Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the Monrovia City Court.

Madam Howard-Taylor is reportedly suffering from chronic asthma and is pleading for more attention.

Her request to the Court is demanding that the police establish probable cause that led to her implication in the 317-million-dollar cocaine case.

Her legal team strongly believes that their client was wrongly implicated in the drug matter, and the pending hearing will vindicate her as provided for by law.

Before Wednesday’s proceedings, suspect Howard-Taylor’s legal team filed two separate applications to the Court, seeking compassionate detention and preliminary examination.

But her compassionate detention application was denied, and the preliminary examination hearing was granted.
