MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Head of the Special Presidential Project Coordinating Committee, Brownie Samukai, says the deployment of the government’s Yellow Machines will resume immediately after the August 24 holiday.
Samukai said: The government has received the full fleet of 285 machines, including heavy-duty, service, and support equipment intended to improve road conditions across Liberia”.
He disclosed that machines have already been deployed to Grand Kru, River Gee, Maryland and Grand Bassa counties, although some counties are yet to receive their full allocation due to incomplete hubs and transportation challenges.
According to him, the remaining machines are expected to be deployed between August 25 and 26, with Grand Kru County expected to receive its full complement of 15 machines during the next phase.
He said: The deployment is dependent on the completion of equipment hubs across the country, with 19 hubs being constructed in Liberia’s fifteen counties to accommodate, maintain and service the machines”.
Meanwhile, the Special Presidential Project Coordinating Committee says the government’s Yellow Machines project could create between 500 and 1,200 employment opportunities across Liberia.
Samukai said recruitment of machine operators and other technical personnel is already about 83 percent complete, with Bong, Nimba and Lofa counties remaining.
He said recruitment will continue in Bong, Nimba and Lofa counties after the August 24 holiday, targeting operators of excavators, dump trucks, front-end loaders and other heavy-duty equipment, as well as mechanics, electricians and tire technicians.
Samukai emphasized that employment opportunities will primarily be given to qualified residents of the counties where the machines will operate, stressing that political recommendations will not replace the required technical skills.
He also disclosed plans to recruit county coordinators and data collection teams to monitor the machines, track their maintenance, and use geospatial technology to ensure the equipment remains within their assigned areas of operation.
