MONROVIA. LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has brokered an agreement among key stakeholders of the University of Liberia (UL) to resolve ongoing disagreements and restore normal academic and administrative activities.
President Boakai, who is the visitor to the University, held consultations at the weekend with the Faculty and Staff Association, University Administration, and Board of Trustees.
He urged the sides to put students and the future of the UL above their differences and embrace dialogue.
Under the agreement, the Faculty and Staff Association and the UL Administration will withdraw statements that heighten tensions and recommit to constructive engagement.
An Executive Mansion release says the government will also provide 2.4 million US Dollars to the National Social Security Corporation (NASSCORP) to enroll eligible employees for retirement benefits, while 40% of outstanding salaries will be considered in the 2027 National Budget.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has described the agreement as an important step toward restoring stability at the UL.
The Liberian Leader called on all stakeholders to work together for the improvement of the University.
He believes that students must not become victims of institutional disagreements.
At the same time, President Boakai has directed the renovation of existing facilities of the University, with the Ministry of Public Works taking the lead.
According to the release, a monitoring team will track the work and submit weekly reports, while six thousand classroom chairs have been secured, with an additional fourteen thousand expected.
