MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The former Vice President and Political Leader of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), Jewel Howard-Taylor, has called for reconciliation and unity within the Party.
It followed an engagement with former senior members of the Party over the weekend, including Bomi County Senator Edwin Snowe, Maryland County Senator James Biney, and others.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 7, 2026, Madam Howard-Taylor said,” Consultations with the Party leaders and stakeholders had opened a new chapter for the NPP, and that the Party’s future is more important than past disagreements”.
She urged members to embrace forgiveness, rebuild trust, and work together to strengthen the Party, describing the moment as a renewed march toward unity, progress, and a stronger Party.
The Party became divided during the 2023 General Elections, when its former Chairman, Senator James Biney, refused to sign the coalition framework between the Party and the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and supported former President George Weah’s re-election bid.
The former Chairman then publicly declared his support for the then-candidate Joseph Boakai, prompting his initial suspension and subsequent expulsion from the Party.
