MONROVIA, LIBERIA-In a significant move to dignify tax practitioners in Liberia, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, veteran tax practitioners, financial and legal experts have successfully validated the bylaw of the Liberian Institute of Tax Practitioners (LITP) to align with the Act establishing the institute.
The Liberian Institute of Tax Practitioners was established with a law signed into effect in April 2026, to enhance tax administration and professional standards; an institute charged to develop and promote professional tax practices in the Country.
As an autonomous government institution, the Liberian Institute of Tax Practitioners is also responsible for promoting the development of common technical and educational guidelines while establishing its branches in the fifteen counties. The institute will have a President, Vice President, Directors, and officers, among others.
Speaking during the one-day validation and alignment exercise, LITP’s Acting Vice President Arthur Fumbah, described the exercise as key for effective operations of the institute, adding that the Institute is the legal regulatory body of the Liberian government charged to implement, oversee the training and licensing of tax practitioners.
“I am very excited about today’s validation and alignment exercise. Before this gathering, we first held a council meeting right in here, and the mandate was that we complete the pilot as is being done. We are now moving to the election, because we are running against the visitation of the West Africa Union of Tax Institute,” Fumbah added.
According to him, the West African Union of Tax Institute has since expressed interest in visiting the Liberian Institute of Tax Practitioners for a potential partnership that could standardize tax practices in Liberia and foster tax compliance for the betterment of Liberians.
As LITP prepares to receive the West Africa Union of Tax Institute’s delegation, Mr. Fumbah has vowed to forward the results from the one-day validation and alignment exercise to the Liberian Institute of Tax Practitioners governing council.
“We have a very good cooperation from the lawyers, and they are even willing to help us monitor the update, so let them come and help us really put that together, so I will be reporting to the council that will get on there,” the Liberian Institute of Tax Practitioners Acting Vice President disclosed.
Arthur Fumbah also called on tax practitioners in Liberia for their active participation in the upcoming LITP’s election, which is slated for September this year, while urging them to take the tax body’s membership process seriously.
The Liberian Institute of Tax Practitioners Acting Vice President extended sincere thanks to participants of the validation and alignment exercise, disclosing that the government of Liberia has agreed to give LITP its full political will. He craved the support of the participants, adding that the government expects a lot from the newly established tax body.
“From my experience, I want to inform you all that we have the best in this one, all we need to do is to work hard for our people and this great nation, so I urge everyone to support tax collection,” the Liberian Institute of Tax Practitioners’ Acting Vice President disclosed.
